Global Mobile Wallet Usage Trends (2024)

As of 2024, global mobile wallet usage reached 4.8 billion users, reflecting a 74% increase since 2020. Today, 60% of the global population uses mobile wallets—driven by growing smartphone pe*******on and the demand for contactless payments. Sub-Saharan Africa leads in mobile money adoption, with over 1.2 billion active accounts, highlighting the region’s reliance on digital financial services (DFS) for financial inclusion.

Zambia’s Mobile Wallet Landscape

In Zambia, 58.5% of adults now use mobile wallets, up significantly from just 14% in 2015 (National Financial Inclusion Strategy II, NFIS II).

Dominant Remittance Tool
Mobile money is the preferred channel for domestic transfers, used by 56.8% of senders and 88.4% of recipients. In rural areas, its impact is even more profound: only 17.8% of Zambians live within 30 minutes of a bank branch, compared to 53.6% who are within reach of a mobile money agent, making convenience a key value driver.

Persistent Challenges
Zambia faces low financial literacy levels (23.6%) and trust barriers, with 70% of accounts remaining dormant, mainly due to limited awareness at the onboarding stage. Regressive transaction fees (ranging from 0.04% to 0.21%) also disproportionately impact low-income users. Additionally, agent liquidity issues persist in rural areas, where cash float management is difficult, requiring overdraft facilities linked to transaction volumes.

Reporting to – CEO
Purpose of the Position;
The position of Human Resource Manager consists of planning, directing, and coordinating human resource management activities of an organization to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, personnel policies, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities;
• Handle contractual arrangements for new, continuing and exiting staff
• Manage staff induction and probation periods at Rapid Telecomix Limited
• Establish Personnel files ensuring that necessary information is available and is appropriately filed.
• Respond to human resources- related staff queries and concerns at Rapid Telecomix Limited
• Advise Rapid Telecomix Limited Management on aspects of the labor related matters.
• Implement the human resource policies and ensure compliance by all staff at Rapid Telecomix Limited.
• Prepare and manage the annual Rapid Telecomix Human Resource budget and participate in the budgeting process ensuring that all HR plans at Rapid Telecomix Limited are included.
• Staff development and other team building activities at Rapid Telecomix Limited.
• Monitoring general staff performance and attendance.
Education/Experience;
• 2 Years’ experience as HR Manager or related.
• Should be a member of the ZIHRM with valid practicing license.
• Attach all relevant academic qualification
Competences & Skills;
• Good experience of running recruitment campaigns including knowledge of competency based interviewing
• Ability to develop advise, support and where necessary counsel staff on HR-related issues
• Good understanding of the Zambian labor laws
• Ability to and revise policies, Job Profiles, and other human resource systems
