Deeply saddened by the passing of His Royal Highness Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV, Inkhosi Yama Khosi.
Born David Njengembazo Jele, Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV dedicated over 44 years of leadership to preserving the rich Ngoni heritage, strengthening cultural unity, and upholding traditional values that continue to shape generations today. From humble beginnings in Efeni village and later working in Livingstone, he rose to become one of Zambia’s most respected traditional leaders after ascending to the throne in 1982.
His legacy will be remembered through his commitment to culture, particularly the growth and recognition of the Ncwala Traditional Ceremony, which became a symbol of pride and unity for many people across Zambia and beyond.
Moments like this remind us that regardless of tribe, background, or status, we are one people. Traditional leaders play an important role in preserving our identity, customs, peace, and unity as a nation.
My heartfelt condolences to the Ngoni Royal Establishment, the people of Eastern Province, and the nation at large.
May the soul of Inkhosi Yama Khosi rest in eternal peace. 🕊️
