*TEACHER UNIONS ARE* *DELIBERATELY* *WORKING AGAINST* *THEIR MEMBERS AND* *GOVERNMENT*

After careful observation and scrutiny, Teacher Empowerment Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (TEMCOS) has concluded that all teacher unions in Zambia are deliberately but vividly sabotaging government effort in bringing about financial emancipation among teachers.

Teacher unions have pathetically failed to carry out sensitization among their members about some government policies that are aimed at ending high indebtedness among teachers.In the last few years, Government has come up with a number of favorable policies for civil servants that can end high indebtedness through the Public Service Micro Finance Company ,where it has been collaborating with different stakeholders for agriculture, building and other productive sectors of the economy. However, the unions have never been in schools to educate their members on the importance of such cardinal Government initiatives.

Teacher unions are currently getting huge sums of money from their members in form of non- refundable membership subscriptions ,but the unions do not visit teachers for worker education and sensitizations on national policies ,laws and programs which have potential to economically empower educators in the country.

Most teachers in Zambia are highly indebted and the inertial by their organizations to empower them is making the situation worse .for the sake of teachers, TEMCOS is calling on the Labour Commissioner to compel unions to begin carrying out worker education and economic empowerment,as stated in the Industrial and Labour Relations Act.

Offtake Agreement has been successfully signed between Cross Border Network Africa and TEMCOS giving us market to supply over 300,000 by 10kgs of Red and White Onions, Garlic, Potatoes and Vegetables (Chibwabwa, Kanunka and Kalembula).
