Then the rush begins. Remember, from 1 November 2026, all Method 1 VGM declarations must come from a SAMSA-authorised weighing facility.

A container that looks perfectly safe on the quay can become a serious risk once the vessel is underway. A Lashing Certificate confirms that cargo has been properly secured with the correct lashing methods to help it withstand the demands of the voyage.

Charcoal isn't treated as a specialised cargo because it's heavy. It's treated that way because, if packed incorrectly, it presents a very real fire risk during transport.
