A Kenyan entrepreneur recently went viral after mounting a portable WiFi router directly into his helmet and selling internet access while walking through busy streets and events.
At first glance it looks funny.
But from a networking perspective, it actually reflects a very real global demand:
People want internet access anywhere, anytime.
Not every environment has stable infrastructure. What impressed me most wasn't the device itself
It was the mindset behind it.
Instead of waiting for a perfect infrastructure, he created a mobile connectivity solution using the tools he already had available.
As someone who works in wireless networks and WiFi solutions, I think this trend will continue to grow:
• Portable WiFi deployment
• Faster temporary networks
• Vehicle-based connectivity
• Outdoor wireless coverage
• Networking applications on the edge
• Flexible WiFi infrastructure
Sometimes innovation doesn't start in a lab.
Sometimes it starts with a simple understanding of what people really need in everyday life.
Curious to hear from others on networks, internet providers, wireless deployment or system integration
