His first full-time employment, was as winemaker in 1982 at Boschendal Wine Estate where he proceeded to work himself up to Cellar Master, left after 13 years. isch Food and Wine Consultants together with his wife Andrea Marent-Hegewisch. In 2003 he signed a consulting winemaker contract with Solms-Delta, which ended in August 2012. He is a winemaker at heart , but branched out into commodity trading, specialized wine and beverage projects. Amongst his activities are

Some of his achievements
Created the first true amaroni style alternative in South Africa, from desiccated white and red grapes. Introduced the first blend between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay made in a rose style. Produced the highly successful Boschendal Blanc De Noir. Perfected the manufacture of a South African Lambrusco alternative, in a petillant style with low alcohol levels. Producing a port style wine, utilizing desiccated grapes and fortifying with grappa produced from desiccated skins. Producing award winning and unique wines, from Rhone style grape varieties.
