The Ombud Council, in collaboration with the FAIS Ombud and the National Financial Ombud (NFO), recently hosted a Financial Ombud System training workshop for staff of the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (NC DEDT). The session focused on raising awareness about the financial sector ombud system as an accessible dispute resolution mechanism.

Attendees were also educated on the mandate, role and functions of the Ombud Council as the oversight body of financial ombud schemes.

Together, we continue to promote fair, transparent, and effective resolution of financial disputes.

As we commemorate the legacy of the youth of 1976, we are reminded of the importance of empowering today’s young people with the knowledge, awareness, and confidence to make informed financial decisions.

Financial literacy and consumer awareness play a vital role in helping young people understand their rights, avoid financial harm, and build a more secure future.

Happy Youth Day.

As we commemorate Youth Day, the FAIS Ombud highlights an important reality. Young South Africans (aged 15 to 34) make up a third of our population, yet accounted for only 18% of complaints received by this Office during the 2025/2026 financial year. Of those complaints, 67% related to funeral insurance policies. This raises important questions about financial awareness, protection and decision-making among young consumers. Read more here...
