Level 5 warning for disruptive rain | Valid: Wednesday - Thursday, 3 + 4 June 2026

A Level 5 warning for disruptive rain has been issued for Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. Heavy rainfall is expected to result in significant impacts, including possible danger to life, flooding of roads and settlements, displacement of communities, and the risk of mudslides in vulnerable areas.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid crossing flooded roads or rivers, and take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

URGENT WEATHER ALERT – Eastern Cape 🚨
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 Warning for disruptive rain across the Kouga Local Municipality and surrounding areas for the week of 11 May 2026.

Affected Areas:
Kouga Local Municipality
Nelson Mandela Bay Metro
Sundays River Valley, Makana & Ndlambe

Expected Impacts:
Localised flooding of roads and settlements
Damage to property and infrastructure
Mudslides and rockfalls
Rising river levels (Kouga Dam already overflowing)

Orange Level 5 Warning also active for mudslides and flooding in parts of the Eastern Cape including Kouga and Koukamma.

No river activities – All recreational boats banned until further notice
Avoid crossing low-lying bridges and swollen streams
