NUMSA SIGNS ABOVE INFLATION AGREEMENT AT ESKOM ROTEK INDUSTRIES
14 July 2022
Press statement
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has signed an above inflation wage agreement with Eskom Rotek Industries (ERI) in Rosherville in Johannesburg which is a subsidiary of Eskom.
It is broken down as follows:
1. This is a 1-year agreement valid from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.
2. All bargaining unit employees will receive 7% across the board.
3. The increase will be based on an employeeβs basic salary (excluding LSI) and will be implemented from 30 June 2022.
4. Housing allowance will increase by R400 to R3825.
5. Maternity leave will increase from 4 months to 5 months.
Task teams will be assigned to deal with specific issues such as:
ο§ The eradication of T02 and T03 salary scales
ο§ Parental leave
ο§ Adoption leave
ο§ The 6th month of maternity leave
ο§ Long service increment
ο§ Transportation bonus
This agreement is a victory for workers at ERI especially because we had to negotiate hard to secure an across the board increase. We want to thank all NUMSA officials for their dedication and service.
What we have always fought or is a living wage, and for us, that is a defined as a wage that can sustain human life from birth to death. The working class in South Africa is subjected to poverty wages and that is because of our racist colonial past, where paying slave wages for African labour has been normalized. Therefore, NUMSA will always fight for above inflation increases for the working class. Moreover, we will continue to advance the notion that genuine economic freedom for the working class will be obtained through ownership and control of the minerals, and the land being placed under the control of a working class government. The working class are the creators of wealth and therefore they deserve the best of everything. They deserve quality healthcare and education and all the things that come with a βsoft lifeβ. The wealth of the country must be used to benefit us all as a society and NUMSA is committed to this struggle.
Aluta continua!
The struggle continues!
