A 230km, 14 day, hike across the top of the Drakensberg escarpment in aid of Assist, a Pietermeritzburg charity that cares for abused/abandoned babies and children. He is 28 years old and farms in Otto's Bluff, which is about 20km outside of Pietermaritzburg. Otto has decided to use his passion for hiking to raise funds for worthwhile cause – abused/abandoned babies and children. He plans to do on
e of South Africa's toughest hikes – The Grand Traverse, a 14 day hike, starting on the 24th March 2013 – to raise money for a Pietermaritzburg based non-profit organisation called “Assist”. Otto has been involved with Assist for about two years now, as he truly believes this organisation is making a huge impact in many little lives but they do not always have the sufficient funds to function to its full capacity. The Grand Traverse is a 230km hike across the top of the Drakensberg escarpment with a total elevation gain of over 9000m (higher than Everest). Although this is one of South Africa's most iconic hikes, only a handful of people attempt it annually due the physical and mental determination needed to complete it. Otto is covering all his own costs so all money sponsored towards his hike will go 100% to Assist. Please deposit money directly into the Assist bank account using OTTO and then your name or business name as a reference and email proof of deposit to [email protected] so we can send you a thank you letter and receipt. Assist is a registered NPO and a registered section 18a tax exempt organisation therefore your donations are eligible for a tax rebate.
