Our General Legal Counsel, Joy Ngcobo, unpacks a question every development finance institution must grapple with: capital deployed is not the same as impact achieved in the latest edition of InHouse Africa published by Legal Industry Reviews.

Joy explores how governance isn't an obstacle to deal-making, it's usually what saves the deal, and why legal counsel needs to be in the room earlier, testing assumptions and helping structure workable solutions rather than simply approving what's already been decided. She sets out four tests every developmental investment should be measured against: mandate alignment, commercial sustainability, legal and regulatory soundness, and accountable risk ownership.

KZNGFA's expertise in development finance is helping shape the regional conversation.

As part of Women’s Month, KZN Growth Fund Agency’s Acting CEO, Lana Meyer, joined an inspiring panel of women leaders at the UKZN Graduate School of Business and Leadership’s Women Power Connect Business Breakfast, held under the theme “Imbokodo: Women in Local Economic Development.”

The conversation explored the realities and opportunities shaping local economic development from unlocking local markets and funding opportunities to building sustainable businesses, strengthening compliance and creating pathways for the next generation of leaders.

The engagement also builds on the growing partnership between KZNGFA and the UKZN Graduate School of Business and Leadership, following the successful Funding Masterclass hosted in July. Through continued collaboration, the institutions are working to connect knowledge, funding and industry expertise to support businesses and contribute to meaningful economic impact across KwaZulu-Natal.

As we celebrate Women’s Month, we recognise the women who are not only participating in the economy, but actively shaping, building and growing it.
