TAKE PHOTOS & VIDEOS
Before vehicles are moved, and if safe to do so, you need to document vehicle positions, number plates, damage to all vehicles, road conditions, traffic signs, debris/skid marks and driver licences and license disks.
A short video walk around can also help with insurance claims.

Car accidents happen quickly and usually leave us feeling stressed and flustered. However, its important to try to remain level-headed and follow the steps outlined in our next few posts immediately after an accident.

STOP IMMEDIATELY
It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident in South Africa, especially if there are injuries or significant damage.
* Switch on your hazards
* Move to a safe area if possible
* Do not move injured people unless they are in immediate danger
CHECK FOR INJURIES
Call emergency services if anyone is injured.
STAY CALM AND DO NOT ADMIT FAULT
Even if you think you caused the accident, avoid saying:
* “It was my fault”
* “I didn’t see you”
* “I’m sorry, I caused this”
Stick to exchanging information and reporting the facts only. Fault is later by insurers and investigators at a later stage.
