🔧 Landlord Life 🔧
Not all of our updates are celebratory, and today we must share a deeply troubling situation we recently encountered. Following the exit of a tenant from Unit A of our duplex, we were faced with severe vandalism—the most vile kind 💩. Cleaning up the physical mess was one thing, but the emotional toll of seeing our hard work and efforts literally defiled has been another battle entirely 😣.
This year has certainly tested us as landlords. Both The Simone and Unit A were vacated at the end of June, and while The Simone was left in decent condition (aside from an overwhelming amount of left-behind furniture and belongings), Unit A was unfortunately severely mistreated. We’ll spare you the graphic details, but the damage was so extensive that it required biohazard cleaning on all surfaces, including the walls.
This experience has been challenging for our team, but we remain committed to our mission of providing quality housing. Moving forward, we are implementing stricter measures, including a three-month inspection requirement and no longer accepting partial payments.
After completing the initial deep cleaning to eliminate surface contamination, we painted, repaired shorted electrical sockets, and fixed the flooring, which was so severely soiled that the planks are buckling. She’ll be ready to list by the end of this week 😊
While this has been a difficult chapter, we are determined to move forward, learn from this experience, and continue our work in revitalizing communities 🏡✨
