Florida’s Stormwater Rules Just Got Clearer

SB 848 is now law, and it’s changing how stormwater treatment works across Florida.

What this means: - More flexibility in meeting water quality standards - Treatment can happen off-site when it’s more efficient - Clear rules for regional stormwater systems (RSMS) and Water Quality Enhancement Areas (WQEA) - Better long-term environmental outcomes

Happy Gopher Tortoise Day!

These remarkable reptiles are one of Florida’s most important ecosystem engineers. Their burrows provide shelter for over 350 other species, from scrub jays to indigo snakes, burrowing owls to gopher frogs, earning them the title of “keystone species.”

At Mitigation Marketing, we work with conservation banks across Florida that protect and restore gopher tortoise habitat. Every acre preserved safeguards entire communities of wildlife that depend on these ancient architects.

Happy World Wetlands Day! 🌿💧

In honor of World Wetlands Day, we’re spotlighting the theme “Wetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage,” which recognizes how communities have worked with wetlands for generations to protect water, wildlife, and ways of life.

Here in Florida, wetlands are also cultural heritage. For generations, the Seminole Tribe has lived with the Everglades, building elevated chickee homes on higher ground and along “water highways” that rise and fall with seasonal floods. These open-sided, thatched structures, also built by the Miccosukee Tribe, embody traditional knowledge of wetland hydrology, climate, and materials—and show how communities have long designed infrastructure to work with wetlands, not against them.
