Lake Placid Legacy Sites The Winter Sports Capital of the World! Lake Placid has had the privilege of hosting two Olympic Winter Games, first in 1932, and again in 1980.

The venues used for the Games are collectively known as the Lake Placid Legacy Sites, and include: Olympic Center, Olympic Jumping Complex, Mt. Van Hoevenberg, and Whiteface Mountain. Today, these venues continue to host visitors, events, and serve as a unique training ground for many sports. The Adirondack Winter Invitational presented by Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort returns to the historic Herb Brooks Arena November 27โ€“28 for two days of NCAA Division I hockey.

A Lake Placid summer tradition returns TONIGHT!

Join us on the James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval, the same oval where Eric Heiden won 5 gold medals during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, Tuesday - Saturday from 7pm - 9pm. Rentals are available!

Outdoor inline skating is a unique experience for the whole family and only available at the Olympic Center.
