The fountain no longer works and needs major repairs and modifications to give it “life” for the next generations. The CITY has unsuccessfully applied for grants over the last four years. The CITY will continue to apply for grants, but we are competing with all the other cities in the State. In addition, the CITY has many pressing financial commitments that include a substantial investment in the
HIGHWAY 53 RELOCATION. A committee has been formed to raise private funds for this restoration. We’re sure everyone in our community has fond memories of the park, and fountain! I’m also sure we are all proud of our hometown.. We now have an opportunity to “pay forward” these memories. The committee has a goal of raising a minimum of $400,000 for this project. The total project will cost an estimated $900,000. The $400,000 minimum would increase our chances of receiving grants from not only the State, but other sources. While we are hopeful the 400k minimum will be enough, anything we raise above this amount will certainly help our chances.
$400,000 seems like an unreachable goal. It is probably easier to break it down into increments as shown below. In order to raise the minimum, we would need:
A. 400 donations of $1000. C. 1600 donations of $250. D. 3200 donations of $125. We respectfully ask all current and former members of our community to consider a donation. A donation of $250, or more, would be wonderful. Any donation will be gladly accepted, however. The Virginia Foundation has created a fund for these donations; which would be tax deductible because the FOUNDATION has 501c(3) status. Donations payable to the “Olcott Park Fountain Fund” can be mailed to:
