Olcott Park Fountain Restoration

Olcott Park Fountain Restoration Olcott Park Fountain Restoration Project. The City of Virginia needs help in restoring our PARK FOUNTAIN to a functional state. B. 800 donations of $500.

The fountain no longer works and needs major repairs and modifications to give it “life” for the next generations. The CITY has unsuccessfully applied for grants over the last four years. The CITY will continue to apply for grants, but we are competing with all the other cities in the State. In addition, the CITY has many pressing financial commitments that include a substantial investment in the

HIGHWAY 53 RELOCATION. A committee has been formed to raise private funds for this restoration. We’re sure everyone in our community has fond memories of the park, and fountain! I’m also sure we are all proud of our hometown.. We now have an opportunity to “pay forward” these memories. The committee has a goal of raising a minimum of $400,000 for this project. The total project will cost an estimated $900,000. The $400,000 minimum would increase our chances of receiving grants from not only the State, but other sources. While we are hopeful the 400k minimum will be enough, anything we raise above this amount will certainly help our chances.

$400,000 seems like an unreachable goal. It is probably easier to break it down into increments as shown below. In order to raise the minimum, we would need:

A. 400 donations of $1000. C. 1600 donations of $250. D. 3200 donations of $125. We respectfully ask all current and former members of our community to consider a donation. A donation of $250, or more, would be wonderful. Any donation will be gladly accepted, however. The Virginia Foundation has created a fund for these donations; which would be tax deductible because the FOUNDATION has 501c(3) status. Donations payable to the “Olcott Park Fountain Fund” can be mailed to:

The Virginia Community Foundation
519 Chestnut Street

Please help to secure future memories for thousands of young people by making a contribution.

August donations to the Olcott Park Fountain Restoration totaled $2,207, which brings the project total contributions to $461,947.90. Work is now beginning on Phase 2 of the project where funding relies heavily on grants but the private contributions and your continued support is still very important to the success of the project. Every dollar received in private donations reduces dependency on the grant process.

Fountain project reaches $400,000 fundraising goal!

Contributions to the Olcott Park Fountain Restoration Project during the month of June have exceeded our expectations, said the fountain committee. “We are thrilled to report that we have met and surpassed our private donation goal of $400,000. In the month of June we received 275 donations totaling $77,435. This brings our contributions total to $403,031.90.”

Also, due to the tremendous response, the anonymous donor’s $50,000 match challenge has been met. Arrangements are being made for the $50,000 match to be deposited in July.

As a result of the community’s generosity, the committee is now able to begin Phase 1 of the Olcott Park Fountain Restoration Project—restoration of the pool and fountain. A big “thank you!” is extended to everyone who has contributed to and supported this project.

Next, the committee will begin work on Phase 2 funding, which relies heavily on grants. Even though they have met their initial $400,000 goal, private contributions are still very important to the success of the project. Every dollar received in private donations reduces dependency on the grant process.

The restoration project committee continues to seek public input on the project. Ideas can be brought to the next Olcott Park Fountain Restoration meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m. at Miners Memorial Building in Virginia.

The Olcott Park Fountain Fund is a component fund under the Virginia Community Foundation. All contributions made toward the project are considered a tax deductible donation.

As we continue towards our goal of raising $400,000 for the restoration of the Olcott Park fountain, the Olcott Park Restoration committee along with the Virginia Community Foundation are pleased to announce that during the month of May we received $83,853.22 in donations bringing our total to $325,596.90. (Fifty thousand dollars of those donations came from an anonymous donor) We are very appreciative and thankful for the support shown by all of our donors both from the private sector and businesses.

On May 22, we received word from another anonymous donor stating that he/she would match any donations received starting May 22 thru the end of June, up to $50,000. As you can see, May was a very exciting month. If you have already donated to the fountain project, we thank you. If you have not donated, this is the time to do so.
