This is the first summer in many years that I will not be doing outdoor art shows. But I’m watching the weekend fb posts of my artist friends, as well as other artists around the Midwest, with sincere concern. Every weekend so far this season, there have been wicked storms that have destroyed artists’ booths and their precious artwork. I will miss hanging out with my artist buds and chatting with loyal customers every weekend at the various locations, but I admit I feel a great deal of relief not having to obsessively check the weather forecast the days leading up to each show. It’s only June, which is known for being wet and turbulent, but I hope things calm down on the weekends at least, so my artsy-fartsy pals can get paid for their fine work and enjoy their funnel cake in peace.

Although the demands of my "other" job will be keeping me from attending art shows during the summer of 2018, no worries. Absolutely gorgeous weekend at the Harvest Moon Festival in Ely, Minnesota. Was dismayed to struggle with vertigo today, but am headed home with a 3rd Place award, which helps a body feel good.

My little people and I will be at the Bayfield Festival of Arts this weekend, July 15-16. It is one of my favorite shows because I get to spend Saturday and Sunday 15 feet from the very edge of the beautiful lakeshore. I'm in Booth #10, my usual spot. Hours are 10-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.

It's a wonderful time of year to be a business owner, because you get to feel like one of Santa's elves. There are all sorts of clandestine things going on, secret deliveries in dark allies, sworn oaths to remain silent, old folks acting like kids with little secrets. It's always fun to anticipate another person's joy on Christmas morning and know you were a part of it. Adds a sparkle to an already happy time of year. Don't ask me any more questions, because I probably took a blood oath on your behalf.

At the Lakeville Art Festival this weekend. The little people of Sweetgrass Trading Company have had a very good summer. I'm very, very eager to spend time in my beading room this winter and develop some new ideas that I've been considering.

The Bayfield Festival of Arts scheduled for this coming weekend, July 16-17, will go on as planned, despite damaged roads resulting from last Monday's storm. You can find me in Booth #10 right next to the shoreline, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-4.

“Art Escape” is a nine-day celebration of all things art across Bayfield County and Madeline Island.
