You Don’t Have to Be “Big” to Be a Business. ❤️

You don’t need a building full of employees.
You don’t need a fancy office.
You don’t need hundreds of customers.

Maybe it’s just you.

One truck.
One mower.
One toolbox.
One chair in a salon.
One small shop.
One person doing everything from the actual work to answering the phone and paying the bills.

That doesn’t make your business less of a business.

And you don’t have to wait until you’re “bigger” to start treating it like one.

Keeping track of what’s coming in, what’s going out, what each job is really costing you, and whether you’re actually making money matters at every size.

Small business is still business.

And sometimes, staying small is exactly the plan. ❤️

The Secret Life of a Receipt 😂

Some receipts go straight into the books.

Others apparently have bigger plans.

They spend a few weeks in the truck console.
Take a vacation in a coat pocket.
Hide under the seat for a month.
Move into the junk drawer.
And eventually resurface looking like they’ve been through a small war. 😂

Then comes the inevitable question…

“What did I buy for $47.83 four months ago?”

If you own a small business, you probably have at least one receipt out there living its best life right now.

Where’s the strangest place you’ve found one? 😂

The Stuff Nobody Sees 👀

When people see a small business, they usually see the finished product.

The freshly cut lawn.
The completed renovation.
The happy customer.
The finished service.

What they don’t see are all the little things happening behind the scenes.

The late-night messages.
The estimates and invoices.
The receipts shoved in pockets, trucks, and drawers. 😄
The scheduling.
The supply runs.
The bills.
The paperwork.
And the constant mental list of “I need to remember to do that.”

Running a small business is so much more than doing the thing you started the business to do.

Just letting you know-we see you, we see all the “other” things you’re doing!

Have a great Monday and an even better week😉

Just for fun… let’s play “Would You Rather?” 😄

Small business edition!

Would you rather…

📱 Never have to answer another spam call

OR

🧾 Never lose another receipt?

Would you rather…

☕ Have unlimited free coffee

OR

🍽️ Have someone make lunch for you every day?

And the big one…

💰 Have every customer pay their invoice the day they receive it

OR

📧 Never have another unread email?

😂 I have a feeling that last one might be an easy choice for some business owners!

What are you picking?

Small business owners, let’s have some fun. 😂

If your business had a warning label, what would it say?

Ours might be:

⚠️ WARNING: May cause an unusual amount of excitement over organized paperwork, balanced numbers, and finding a receipt you thought was gone forever.

Your turn!

What would YOUR business warning label say?

How is summer almost over already?! ☀️😂

I started summer with a nice little list of things I wanted to get done.

You know… projects around the house, things outside, places to go, stuff I’d finally have time to tackle.

It is now the middle of August.

Have I finished the list? No.

Has the list somehow gotten LONGER?

Absolutely. 😂

At this point, I’m not working through a summer to-do list.

I’m just transferring it over to my fall to-do list. 🍂🤣

Please tell me I’m not the only one! What’s still sitting on your summer list?

Expectation vs. Reality: Small Business Edition 😂

Expectation:
“I’ll be my own boss and make my own schedule!”

Reality:
Thinking about the business while making dinner…or brushing your teeth.
Remembering something you forgot while trying to fall asleep.
Answering “just one quick message.”
And somehow having a to-do list that grows faster than you can check things off. 😂

But then there are those moments when you remember why you started — and somehow, it’s all worth it. ❤️

Our funniest expectation vs reality- that there is an end to the day…it doesn’t happen, lol.

Every small business starts with a vision and a plan. 💛

You picture where you want to go, how you’ll get there, and what success will look like.

But sometimes, the smallest thing changes that plan.

A new opportunity.
A conversation you didn’t expect.
An idea you almost didn’t try.
A small change that leads you in a completely different direction.

And before you know it, the business you’re building doesn’t look exactly like the one you originally imagined.

Sometimes… it’s even better.

Plans give us a place to start, but they don’t have to define exactly where we finish.

Keep the vision, stay open to change, and don’t be afraid when the path takes an unexpected turn. You might just end up somewhere better than you planned. ❤️

📉 Every business has slow times. The key is planning for them before they arrive.

A slower week, month, or season doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with your business. For many small businesses, it’s simply part of the normal cycle.

A little planning can make those quieter periods much less stressful.

✔️ Look back at last year and identify your slower months.

✔️ Know your minimum monthly expenses — what absolutely has to be paid even when sales are down.

✔️ During stronger months, set aside a little extra to help cover the slower ones.

✔️ Be careful about taking on new monthly expenses when business is booming. Ask yourself whether you could still comfortably afford them during your slowest month.

✔️ Use slower periods wisely. Catch up on paperwork, review pricing, organize inventory, follow up with customers, plan marketing, or tackle projects you never have time for when you’re busy.

And most importantly — keep your books up to date.

When you can see what your business actually brings in and spends each month, you can spot patterns and plan ahead instead of being caught off guard.

Slow times are a lot easier to handle when you know they’re coming. 🌿

Does your business have a certain time of year that always seems to slow down?
