One of the topics heating up in our industry is ongoing legal battles involving the National Association of REALTORS (NAR). It all started in 2019 when two home sellers filed a lawsuit against the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) along with three national REALTORS. Since 2019, two key aspects of the NAR business model are being challenged. One is the way the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) controls information. The second is how traditional compensation structures are controlled by seller's agents. The heart of the compensation issue is an antitrust matter - do listing agents set or control buyer's agent compensation? Jeremy Potter will have a panel discussion with Will Fried, Theresa Hatton and John Levonick providing an overview of the legal issues, an update on where we stand on these cases, and what real estate professionals should be aware of when speaking to their realtor partners and consumers this coming year.
