Medicare open enrollment opens October 15th and closes December 7th.

That's only seven weeks. And most people aren't ready when it opens.

The most common mistake I see? People assume the plan they had last year still works for them this year. But formularies change every single year. If you're on regular medications and you haven't checked recently, your costs might already be going up and you don't know it yet.

Think about this in September. Before the window opens and the deadline pressure arrives.

Medicare open enrollment runs October 15 through December 7. That's only seven weeks. Here's what to review before the window opens and why September is the right time to do it.

Heads up: Medicare open enrollment opens in less than 30 days.

October 15th through December 7th is your window to make changes to your Medicare coverage for next year. After December 7th whatever you have is what you're keeping for the next 12 months.

Most people let it roll over without a review. And most people don't realize their plan changed until the bills start looking different.

If you haven't looked at your Medicare coverage in the last year, now is the right time. Not when the window opens. Now, while there's no deadline pressure and you can think it through clearly.

Happy to help with that conversation if it would be useful.

My advice: start thinking about this in September, before the window opens and the deadline pressure arrives.

Today we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives changed forever that day. We honor the victims, the first responders, and all those who continue to carry the weight of that morning.

We will never forget.

Two things Willie says come up constantly in year-end planning conversations.

Roth conversions. Most people have heard of them, meant to look into them, and never gotten around to it. And then December arrives and the window is closed.

And catch-up contributions. If you're over 50, your retirement contribution limit is higher than the standard limit. Most people don't realize they're leaving that extra room on the table.

Take action on both of these this week while there's still runway to do something before December 31st.

Roth conversions and catch-up contributions are two of the most valuable year-end moves available. Here's why September is the right time to think about both.

🏔️A little taste of Europe — without leaving the United States!

This week, Willie is taking us to Leavenworth, Washington, a Bavarian-style village tucked into the Cascade Mountains. Think beautiful scenery, charming shops, great food, and a unique stop on your next Pacific Northwest adventure.

Two things come up constantly in year-end conversations:

Roth conversions, which most people have heard of but never actually done. And catch-up contributions, which a lot of people over 50 don't realize they're leaving on the table.

My advice? Take action this week. The window is open right now and December comes faster than anyone expects.

Most people treat September like the calm before the storm.

The kids are back at school. Summer is over. The holidays feel far enough away that there's no real urgency yet.

But here's what Willie says he sees every single year. The tax planning window closes December 31st and most people don't realize how many opportunities they had between now and then until it's already too late to use them.

September feels quiet. That's actually the best time to act.

Most people waste September waiting for the year to wind down. Here's why it's actually your last clear window to make meaningful financial moves before Q4 hits.

Can you feel it? The summer slowdown is over.

The kids are back at school. The calendar is filling up. And before you know it the holidays will be here and the year will be almost over.

September is that rare in-between moment where things aren't quite crazy yet but you can feel that they're about to be.

In my experience it's one of the best months of the year to take a clear look at your finances. Not because there's a crisis. Because there's still time to do something before there is one.

More on that this month.
