h valuation — a clear, defensible picture of what your business is worth today — then guide you through our Preparation to Payday process so you can exit on a planned timeline rather than a crisis one. Led by a Master Certified Business Intermediary (MCBI), one of fewer than 100 nationwide.

Owners like to believe they’ll pick the perfect moment to sell. In practice, most sales get set in motion by something that was never in the plan: a health scare, a partnership that fractures, a key customer lost, a spouse who’s finished waiting, a competing offer out of nowhere. The fear that keeps owners from ever picking up the phone: "If word gets out that I'm selling, everything falls apart."
It's a real fear, and it's not paranoid. So here's the straight answer on how this actually works: exploring a sale, getting a valuation, building a plan — none of it means anyone finds out. The right process protects your privacy at every step and keeps your business running normally while the work happens quietly in the background.
You can know exactly what your business is worth and exactly how you'd sell it, and not one employee, customer, or competitor is any the wiser.
The conversation is confidential. Always has been. 👉 Have a private question? Message me anytime.

Family succession isn't a lesser exit. Done right, it's the best one there is — the business stays in the family, the name carries on, the next generation grows into what you built. It just can't be done on a wish.
Love doesn't fund a buyout. A plan does. A real valuation everyone trusts. A funding path that doesn't bet your retirement on a handshake. A timeline that lets your kids grow into it instead of getting thrown into it.
If passing it to the next generation is the dream you're quietly holding, let's build the structure that makes it real — before the moment forces the question.

Getting an offer feels like the finish line. It isn’t. It’s the starting gun. The stretch between an accepted offer and a closing table is the part of a sale nobody warns you about and it’s fraught. Danger, raw emotion, thin trust, and real fear all show up in that gap, sometimes all in the same afternoon. You’ve said yes to a stranger about the thing you spent years building, and now weeks of scrutiny stand between you and the outcome you wanted. Here's a wish I hear more than almost any other, usually said quietly, almost like a confession: "I want my kids to buy us. I just don't know how to make that work."
It's a beautiful thing to want — the business staying in the family, the name meaning something for another 30 years. And it's also where I watch a lot of good intentions fall apart.
Because "keeping it in the family" without a structure is a hope, not a plan. Who funds the buyout? What's a fair price when it's your own child across the table? What happens to your retirement if the transition stumbles? Love doesn't answer those questions. A plan does.
The good news: this works beautifully when it's built on purpose. A real valuation everyone trusts. A funding path that doesn't bet your retirement on a handshake. A timeline that lets the next generation grow into it.
If that's the dream you're sitting on, let's talk about the structure that makes it real. 👉

A confession, since I spend my days telling owners to build a life that doesn't revolve entirely around work: I'm working on taking my own advice.
One of my goals this year is to make my fitness a real priority — not the thing that gets cut the second a deal heats up. And let me tell you, it's humbling to notice how easily I do the exact thing I coach owners not to do: let the business quietly eat every hour until there's nothing left for me.
Here's what I keep relearning. The point of building something valuable was never just the building. It was supposed to buy you a good life along the way, not only at the finish line.
So I'm practicing what I preach. Blocking the time. Protecting it like it's a client meeting, because it is — the client is me.
Whatever you're building, don't wait until the sale to start living. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment to keep. With a bike. Wish me luck.

Let's talk about the most valuable thing in your business that never shows up on the balance sheet: goodwill.
Goodwill is the part of the price that isn't the trucks, the inventory, or the building. It's the reputation, the relationships, the reason customers come back, the name that means something in town. For a lot of owners, it's the biggest single piece of what their business is worth.
Here's the catch, and I learned it the hard way: goodwill only has value if it stays after you leave. When it's really just you, it walks out the door the day you do — and a buyer won't pay for something that leaves with the seller.
That's not a reason to feel bad. It's the single most fixable, most valuable project you can take on before you sell: moving the goodwill from your shoulders onto the business itself.
Do that, and you don't just protect the price. You raise it.
