While you’re wondering why your microwave clock is still an hour off in June, take a minute to test your smoke alarms. If the batteries are dead, replace them because waking up to the smell of burnt toast is one thing, but waking up to actual smoke? Not so fun.

The NFPA recommends swapping those batteries at least once a year, so if yours are older than your last New Year’s resolution… it’s time.
