AkiraJournal: Hike and Ranch Event at Lockwood Ranch
昨日は今年最後のイベント。いつも通り、午前中は会場近くの山をハイキングした。天気は最高！午前10時前にトレイルヘッドの駐車場に着くと、気温は華氏36度（摂氏約2度）。駐車場の施設の屋根には雪が積もっていた。
気温が低かったせいか、今日は全然疲れを感じない。冬に向かうトレイルにはまだ少し雪が残っていたが、クランポンが必要になるのは、あと2か月くらい先だろうか。
空気がおいしくて、思いっきり深呼吸。8マイル（約13km）、往復3時間ちょっとのハイキングも悪くない。
しばらく来られなくなると思うと、ちょっと残念だ。イベントにかこつけて、同じトレイルを今回でなんと5回も歩いた。景色に大きな変化はないけれど、やっぱり山歩きはいつも気持ちいい。
イベント会場には午後1時半に到着。おいしいピザを食べながら、みんなと楽しい時間を過ごし、今年最後のイベントも無事終了！
🇺🇸 Akira Journal: The Last Event of the Year
Yesterday was our last event of the year. As usual, I started the day with a morning hike in the mountains near the event venue.
The weather was perfect! I arrived at the trailhead parking lot just before 10 a.m., and the temperature was only 36°F (about 2°C). The roofs of the facilities in the parking lot were covered with snow.
Surprisingly, the cold weather made the hike feel effortless. There was still some snow along the trail as winter approaches, but I guess it will be another couple of months before crampons become necessary.
The air was so fresh that I took some deep breaths and really enjoyed it. An eight-mile round trip in just over three hours—not bad at all!
It's a little sad to think I may not be back for a while. Thanks to these events, I've hiked this same trail five times now. The scenery hasn't changed much, but being out in the mountains always feels great.
I arrived at the event around 1:30 p.m. and enjoyed some delicious pizza and good company. That was a great way to wrap up the final event of the year!

Akira Journal: The Lockwood Ranch Event in September
昨日は恒例のショートハイクと、牧場でのギャザリングイベント。先々週からのバケーションの疲れも少し残っていたので、今回は無理をせず、約4マイルのハイクにとどめた。
結局、山を歩き始めたのは午前10時。標高2,000メートルを超える場所なので、その時間でも気温は華氏53度（約12℃）。好天にも恵まれ、気持ちのいい秋のハイクを楽しむことができ感謝。
これまで山で楽しんできた野の花も少しずつ姿を消し始め、平地より一足早く、山には秋の気配が漂っている。
10月の恒例ハイクの頃には、ひょっとすると初雪のあとになっているかもね。
自宅からこのトレイルヘッドまでは約2時間。次回はトレイルヘッドに隣接するキャンプ場に前泊して、朝は山でゆっくり朝食を楽しんでから歩き始める――そんな過ごし方がより一層ショートハイクを楽しめるね。
そして次回は、もう少し距離を伸ばして、10マイル前後のハイクにも挑戦してみようかな。
いずれにしても、山の空気はおいしい。
この空気を吸いに山へ来てみたい人がいたら、ぜひ知らせて。
Akira Journal: The Lockwood Ranch Event in September
Yesterday was our regular short hike and gathering at the ranch.
Still carrying a little of the fatigue from my vacation over the past couple of weeks, I decided to take it easy this time and kept the hike to about four miles.
We finally hit the trail around 10 a.m. Since the trailhead is above 2,000 meters (6,500 feet), the temperature was only 53°F (about 12°C) even at that hour. With beautiful weather on our side, it was a perfect day to enjoy the early signs of autumn in the mountains.
The wildflowers that we had been enjoying throughout the summer are now beginning to fade, and the mountains are already showing the first signs of fall—well ahead of the lower elevations.
By the time of our regular hike in October, we might even find ourselves hiking after the first snowfall of the season.
The trailhead is about a two-hour drive from my home, so next time I may stay overnight at the campground right next to the trailhead. Waking up in the mountains and enjoying a leisurely breakfast before starting the hike sounds pretty good to me.
And perhaps next time, I'll stretch the distance a little further and try a hike of around 10 miles.
One thing is certain—the mountain air tastes good.

Akira Journal: The Lockwood Ranch Event in September
9月の恒例、牧場での時間。
前回の牧場イベントでは、いつの間にかハイクのことよりも、参加してくれた皆さんとの話に夢中になっていた。それぞれ違う分野で活躍している人たちの話は、実に面白い。
仕事のこと、これからやりたいこと、人生のこと……。普段の生活ではなかなか交わることのない人たちと、自然の中でピザを食べながら話す。
忘れてた！おいしいコーヒーも飲める！
こういう時間って、やっぱりいいね。
そして今回も、午前中は恒例のハイク。
前回と同じく約8マイルを歩く。強い意志！
朝の気持ちいい空気の中（標高2500メートルあるよ）、一緒に歩いて、汗をかいて、そして午後はおいしいピザを食べながら、これからのことを前向きに考えている人たちと話す。
そんな時間を一緒に過ごしたい方、ぜひ来て。

Our September ranch gathering is coming up!

At our last ranch event, I ended up spending most of my time talking with everyone rather than thinking about the hike.　And honestly, that was one of the best parts.
I always enjoy hearing the stories of people who are active and successful in completely different fields.
Different careers, different experiences, different dreams—and yet, somehow, the conversations always connect.
There’s something special about getting together in nature, sharing a good pizza, and talking with people who are looking ahead and making things happen.
And yes, we’ll be hiking again in the morning!
Just like last time, we’re planning to hike about 8 miles.
So, if you’d like to join us for a morning hike, enjoy the outdoors, and then spend the afternoon eating great pizza and talking with positive, forward-looking people, come join us!

This Weekend at the Ranch
今週末は、友人の牧場でイベントがあります。

おいしいパスタなどを食べながら、みんなで一緒に楽しみたいですね。
その前に、恒例の Mt. Pinos Hike もやります。
午前9時集合で、2時間ほど歩く予定です。

August 22 is our regular get-together at my friend John Shin’s ranch. Before that, as usual, I’ll do the Mt. Pinos' hike.
It’s an easy hike. If you’re new to hiking, it’s a good one. If you hike a lot, you’ll probably think, “That’s it?”
But honestly, I don’t mind.
A couple of hours in the mountains on a Saturday morning, starting at 8,300 feet, is a pretty good way to start the weekend.
Mt. Pinos is the highest peak in Ventura County, at 8,847 ft. We start at about 8,300 ft., so it’s nice and cool as soon as you get out of the car.
Two hours. That’s enough for me.
We’ll meet at the parking lot in the photo at 9:00 AM.

After that, we’ll head to John’s ranch.
And the ranch is actually the more interesting part.
John is a pretty unusual guy. He’s a successful entrepreneur, but at the same time he spends a lot of his time giving back to the community. He runs all kinds of free programs and webinars focused on financial literacy, business, and entrepreneurship.
As a result, some pretty interesting people tend to show up at his ranch.
Entrepreneurs. Business owners. Professionals. People with unusual backgrounds and talents.
You never really know who you’re going to meet.
There’s no big agenda. We just hang out, eat, talk, and enjoy the afternoon.
And yes, there’s an authentic Neapolitan pizza place at the ranch. That alone is a pretty good reason to come.

So if you feel like getting out of the house on a Saturday, come hike with us.

Or just come to the ranch.

Either way, come meet some interesting people and see what’s going on.

8月22日は友人の牧場で恒例のイベント。その前の朝は、これまた恒例のMt. Pinos。
山を始めてみたい人にはちょうどいいコース。ベテランには少し簡単かな。でも、土曜の朝に2時間くらい山で過ごすのも悪くない、と思える人なら一緒にどうぞ。
Mt. PinosはVentura Countyの最高峰。8,847ft（約2,700m）。駐車場からスタートなので歩き始める時点で約8,300ft（約2,500m）。下界よりずっと涼しい。たった2時間だけど、土曜の朝をこの高さで過ごす。自分にはそれだけで十分価値がある。
集合は写真の駐車場に午前9時。
歩き終わったら友人の牧場へ。ナポリピザが本当にうまい店もあるので、それも楽しみ。
来たい人は連絡ください。

Last week, I attended the World Financial Group (WFG) Convention in Las Vegas. It's hard to believe that I've now been in the financial services industry for seven years.
The COVID years reminded me that helping people prepare for retirement and protect their financial future is meaningful work that remains important in every stage of life. During that time, I also earned my securities licenses and expanded the services I can provide.
This convention reinforced one important lesson: Trust is the foundation of everything we do.
Having spent many years in the travel industry, I see a strong connection between my two careers.
Travel helps people discover new experiences. Financial planning helps people build a more secure future. Both begin with trust.
I'm grateful for the friendships and relationships I've built along the way.

先週はラスベガスで開催された World Financial Group（WFG）のコンベンションに参加してきました。気がつけば、このファイナンシャルの仕事に携わって7年になります。コロナ禍では多くの業界が大きな影響を受けましたが、その期間に改めて感じたのは、「人の人生設計を支える仕事」は景気に左右されにくく、長く必要とされる仕事だということでした。
その時間を活かして証券ライセンスも取得し、少しずつ活動の幅を広げてきました。
今回のコンベンションでは、改めて「信頼」がこの仕事の土台であることを実感しました。
実は、私が長年携わってきた旅行業も同じです。

Honestly the connections alone are worth it.

Before reaching the Lockwood's Ranch, I will have a short hike at Mt Pinos as well.
