This past weekend, I had the honor of being invited back to lecture for the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy Masters of Health Administration program at University of Southern California. Walking back into that space, this time not as a student, but as someone entrusted to share administrative perspective and lived experience, was both humbling and deeply meaningful.

What made the experience even more special was the opportunity to highlight what value-based healthcare looks like in practice, not just in theory. I was incredibly fortunate to bring with me Dr. Edgar Chavez and CFO Franklin Gonzalez from Universal Community Health Center Clinics, leaders who do the real work of serving underserved communities across Greater Los Angeles every single day, alongside the CSO Jason Vallejos of Syndicated Insurance Agency, LLC. Together, we were able to show students how clinical care, administration, and payer strategy can align when the goal is outcomes over volume.

I left feeling genuinely inspired seeing more clinicians and healthcare professionals choosing to pursue administrative education, leaning into the discomfort of a fragmented system and trying to find common ground where collaboration can exist. That willingness to learn across disciplines is where I believe the true promise of value-based healthcare lives.

I don’t know exactly what higher education will look like in the coming years. But watching healthcare veterans step into classrooms to guide students who are earnestly trying to do the most good for the most people gave me real hope. It reminded me that no matter how complex policy becomes or how strained systems feel, there is still immense value in human connection, mentorship, and the honest sharing of ideas.

I am humbled—and honestly in awe—of the people I continue to meet in this field. That they allowed me to be their guide, even briefly, is something I don’t take lightly.

And above all, no matter what… Fight On. ✌️

The realistic look on retirement and the reality of more than 70% elders over the age of 70. I don't want to think about what the USA will be like when I turn 65 when hearing about the struggles of our current retirement class.

Financial illiteracy is chronic issue that unfortunately our society preys upon and hopes for us to live on borrowed time. For myself personally, I've been investing since 18 due to the incredible advice I received from my 11th grade history teacher. And I've learned how to use different financial tools to work for me in the event of chronic, terminal illness or pension style payments if the first two don't occur. I encourage all my friends and family to start now. The time will pass and we'll wake up 65 and many opportunities will close. Saving is not a punishment it's buying time for our future selves and I would be honored to show you how.

**🚨 New Video Drop — and this one means everything to me**

I just released the most meaningful video I’ve ever made.

I spent the day reacting to **John Oliver’s deep dive on Medicare Advantage** — and honestly, it was one of the most fun, challenging, and important conversations I’ve had in a long time.

I deeply respect John Oliver and the way he calls out the failures in our healthcare system. A lot of what he says is *absolutely* right — we **do** need major changes so people can feel safe, protected, and confident when it comes to their healthcare.

But what often gets lost is the **nuance**.

How we got here matters.
Why Medicare Advantage exists matters.
And why some of these problems won’t be fixed by a single policy idea alone matters.

Real change requires **serious government buy-in**, stronger regulation, and standardized incentives that actually reward what healthcare is supposed to be about:
👉 keeping people healthy
👉 protecting patients
👉 and making sure no one is left behind because of confusing systems

This video isn’t about defending corporations.
It’s about **defending seniors, disabled individuals, and families** who deserve clarity instead of fear.

I’m incredibly proud of this video because my goal isn’t to tell you what to choose — it’s to make sure **you feel confident in whatever you choose for yourself.**

If you or someone you love is on Medicare, this one is worth watching.
If you care about healthcare reform, this one is worth sharing.

Let me know what you think after you watch. 💬

A lot of people are clowning on these new humanoid “alphas” — and yes, alpha really is the right word. They look awkward and unpolished right now. But every major technological leap starts this way.

We’ve seen this before: computers, cell phones, the first iPhone. What starts as clunky and expensive eventually reshapes everything around it.

When I look at these humanoids, I can’t help but think about what’s coming. Hospitals could eventually save millions by reducing human staffing. Memory care homes might offer 24-hour attention without worrying about shortages. Even my own work could be replaced by machines that understand clients more deeply through real-time learning and data.

It’s easy to laugh it off now, but our relationship with technology has always followed this pattern — resistance, adoption, dependence.

Blade Runner has always been my favorite sci-fi film because it explored the possibility of humanoids among us. I used to dream about that kind of future. Now that it’s inching closer, I’m not sure how to feel — fascinated, uneasy, hopeful, maybe all at once.

My hope is that our version of this future doesn’t mirror Blade Runner’s. There’s a real opportunity for something good here… even if it means some of us, myself included, might one day be replaced.

I get asked this question in nearly every Medicare 101 session — and honestly, about 40–45% of my clients have either wondered or joked that I must be “bought.”

The truth is, this has been both the hardest and most fulfilling career I’ve had so far. It challenges me daily, keeps me hopeful, and sometimes leaves me heartbroken. Along the way, I’ve met brokers who are brand new and others with incredible depth of experience — and I’ve learned from both.

I also understand why some brokers choose to “flip” clients. We aren’t salaried. We buy our own health coverage. And those first two years — often with little to no income — can push anyone to make difficult choices just to keep food on the table.

That’s why I believe the need of better systems in place to prevent these practices, especially for those entering the field without a background in healthcare management or administration.

If you’re new to Medicare — whether as a broker or as someone becoming eligible — here’s my advice:

-Partner with the right Agency or FMO. Leadership, training, and integrity matter more than commission splits.

-Understand long-term products. Sustainable policies serve clients better — and reduce churn.

-Know your market. The best brokers are those who understand the communities they serve.

As healthcare continues to evolve, so must the systems that govern how we guide and protect beneficiaries. Building trust and sustainability in this field starts with knowing your community and doing right by them.

I had an absolutely incredible and candid conversation with Dr. Elinora Madrid from Blue Zones Health. We tackled some of the uncomfortable — but necessary — tensions between our two industries: my perspective from the insurance side and hers from the provider side.

The truth is, meaningful progress in healthcare can only happen when we’re willing to have these open, honest discussions between sectors that have historically been at odds. Only then can we start identifying common ground and creating solutions that truly enhance our clients’ quality of life.

We explored everything from medical education and systemic barriers to the current state of healthcare amid recent challenges — including the ripple effects of the shutdown.

I highly recommend watching this conversation once it’s live on my YouTube channel. It offers valuable insights into clinician burnout, the interconnectedness of our roles, and how we can better support physicians to ultimately improve patient outcomes.

SS was never meant to fully support anyone in retirement. It was supposed to be part of a 3 legged stool: pension, retirement savings and SS. Those without a pension need to rely mostly on retirement savings, as SS is supposed to replace about one third of your previous earnings.

However, most of us are not planning for retirement and for some of us are now facing the harsh reality of soley relying on social security. It's not enough and you'll need a plan to figure out healthcare, living expenses and self independence.

Utilize me! Annual enrollment is coming and healthcare premiums will skyrocket. Don't get caught off guard and schedule a review with me.

What do you actually get when you turn 65 and age into Medicare? 🎂➡️🏥

At 65, the Social Security office typically grants you Medicare Part A & B (known as Original Medicare).
✔️ Part A = Hospital coverage
✔️ Part B = Medical/ancillary coverage

But that’s not the full picture.
➡️ Part D (prescriptions) comes from private insurance companies
➡️ Dental, vision, and hearing are not included — you’ll need a separate plan for those

Knowing what’s covered (and what’s not) can save you from unexpected bills later on.

From commercial insurance… to Medicare. 🏥➡️👵👴

Did you know there are other health coverage options beyond Medicare and Medicaid? 🏥✨

Here are two important ones:

🔹 COBRA Insurance – A federal program that lets you keep your commercial health coverage if you’ve lost your job.

🔹 ACA (Affordable Care Act) – Plans offered through your state’s marketplace. They’re managed by private companies but based on your income and tax info. If you make too much to qualify for Medicaid, ACA may be the next best option.

Knowing your choices means fewer gaps in coverage and more peace of mind.

From commercial insurance… to Medicare. 🏥➡️👵👴

Commercial insurance plays a role in almost every stage of our lives:
🔹 The ACA marketplace uses commercial companies to offer private plans
🔹 Medicaid also contracts with commercial insurers to manage coverage
🔹 And as we age, we eventually transition into Medicare

Each step has its own rules, costs, and options — which is why understanding the transition is so important.

Every American with Medicare pays a monthly Part B premium, there’s no escaping it.

The only way to have that fully covered is if you also qualify for Medicaid alongside your Medicare.

Don’t focus too much on the monthly premium alone. Many insurance plans offer additional coverage at no extra cost, but not all.

Some plans may charge extra depending on the services or coverage you choose.

Understanding your options is key to getting the right plan for your needs.
