cybersecurityforbabyboomers.com

cybersecurityforbabyboomers.com Cyber Security is a blog for boomers who want simple solutions (not techie language) to their computer device(s) and preventive solutions. Cheers! CHEERS!

Why Computer Security for Baby Boomers? Over the past few years, my generations’ use of computing devices has jumped in leaps and bounds! Boomers use and depend on technology for their internet banking, making cell phones purchases, video chatting, posting pictures/videos, etc. with seemingly little regard for their cyber security. I base this observation on my personal experiences. I have been on

the net for some 30+ years and over time have become more concerned how we travel on the net. I have many friends and clients who have become net victims! Some years ago we were all made aware of computer viruses/malware, so we went out and bought software to plug up that hole however, these days the it much more serious-someone can take over your identify, bank accounts, etc. Unless you have been away on some distant island where you have had no access to the outside world-you wouldn’t know that the net has become a dangerous place to visit. Hackers, scammers, and the like now prefer to break into your computer/tablet/ electronic device rather than into your home-because it is safer for them and more profitable. So with that in mind, I have set out to help baby boomers (like myself) to safely navigate the net. What do I know:

I have experience on my side! I have built, rebuilt, repaired virus infected computer for my friends, students, and clients so I am well aware of computers and how they work or why they don't work. I hope you will follow, enjoy and learn from my blog

Simple not harder:

So it is my goal to provide simple solutions to common net treats. I am not a forensic cybernaut. So if you are looking for complex answers to common computing issues-Computer Security for Baby Boomers isn’t for you. Who is at Fault:

The old saying comes to mind -“We have met the enemy and it is US.” Up to 70% of computer hacks happen when we are careless! However, I believe that education is the key to solving many of our computer problems and http://www.computer-security-for-baby-boomers.com will try to help.

General information

Computer-Security-for-Baby-boomers (CSFBB) is the brainchild of one of my clients. She always said that all her closest friends had a computer or cell phone to access the internet (i.e., net). Furthermore, most of them would oftentimes complain of computer issues and / difficulty finding someone to help them computer problem, that also spoken in an understandable language (i.e., non geek talk). Furthermore, she and her friends also wanted to learn to problem solve and not have to depend on someone “else” or a relative. Bottom line, they wanted to be in control. They wanted to get easy answers to common tech problems. So this is where CSFBB comes into the picture. CSBFF exists to enable boomers to solve their own computer/device problem(s), so as to not depend on others. We at CSBFF will work hard to minimize tech language, make use of links which have solutions, give you alerts to potential hacks that may be harmful, also make use of online videos, etc. However, there will be times that we will “NEED” to use techie language-just the way it is. So, we hope you learn a lot and in turn share with us your solutions so as we can share them with other boomers.
