⚠️ TO-DO LIST If you experienced flooding with Helene.
If you had rising water come into your home or business with Helene, here are the things you should do immediately if possible. ⬇️
☑️ Step 1 – Document everything. Take as many pictures as you can. Both inside and outside of your structure. This will make the claims process smoother. 🚯Do not start throwing things on the side of the road without documenting the damage first. It is unlikely, however, you may need to prove you had a flood. So pictures of the outside during the flood event are recommended. For flood insurance to kick in, the flood must impact 2 or more properties. If you have pictures, or your neighbors do, save them. Hint, the road is a 2nd property. If your road floods as well as your property = 2 properties.
☑️ Step 2 – File your claim. Your flood insurance declaration page will have contact information in the event of a claim. I recommend doing online forms when available. 1000’s of people flooded last night, and the phones will be jammed. If you need a copy of your policy, please email us and we’ll get you a copy as quickly as possible. [email protected] , [email protected], [email protected], are the best emails right now. We live here too and are dealing with floods of our own, please be patient with us.
☑️Step 3 – Start getting your structure dry. The longer it stays wet, ⚠️ the more likely to develop long term problems like mold. Get wet things out, and dry the things you can’t remove. ⚠️ Remediation companies are great for these scenarios. If flood waters got on carpet, rip it out and keep a sample for proof of damage. If you have power, get air moving. Fans and your air conditioners need to be running 24/7.
☑️Step 4 – Be kind and patient. Millions of people were impacted by this storm in one way or another. Those of us responsible with getting you whole are going to be very busy for the coming days/weeks. Even with the best of intentions, all of this will take more time than anyone wants to be resolved. Be patient, help your neighbors, be part of the solution.
Our hearts and prayers out to those affected! Please stay safe.❤️
