TAPCO Credit Union
TAPCO Credit Union was founded in 1934 by nine employees of the City of Tacoma, committed to making it easier for workers to get the financial help that they weren't receiving at traditional banks. Originally opened as City Credit Union of Tacoma, our first branch was located under the stairs of the Old City Hall in downtown Tacoma. As membership grew, the name changed to Tacoma-Pierce County Employees Credit Union, and was eventually consolidated to TAPCO Credit Union to represent Tacoma and Pierce County.
Anyone who lives or works in the state of Washington is eligible for membership. Each member has a voice in how TAPCO operates, regardless of how much he or she has on deposit. Member participation keeps the focus on the founding members' vision of "People Helping People".
