Strong sales don't necessarily translate into strong cash flow, especially when customers take 60 or 90 days to pay their invoices.
One useful metric is Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), which estimates how long it takes to collect payment after a sale.
For example, if your business generates $100,000 in monthly credit sales but consistently has $200,000 in outstanding receivables, you may be waiting approximately 60 days to collect payment.
Review your accounts receivable aging report regularly, identify customers who consistently pay late, and establish a consistent collection process. Even reducing collection times by a week or two can make a meaningful difference in available cash.
