Quick calendar reminder for anyone still on extension. October 15 is the extended filing deadline for many 2025 individual returns and C corporation returns.

One important distinction: an extension gives extra time to file. It does not extend the original deadline to pay
tax that was due.

If bookkeeping is what is holding up the return, deal with that piece now so your tax professional has clean numbers to work from.

Q4 is a good time for a financial check-in before December gets crowded.

For a therapy practice, I would look at eight things: whether the books are current, year-to-date profit, cash
available for taxes, owner pay or S corporation salary if applicable, upcoming payroll and bonuses, contractor information and W-9s, large year-end expenses, and the first draft of your 2027 goals.

None of this has to happen at once. It just needs a plan.

Save this and work through it before year-end.

Today I want to recognize the therapists and mental health professionals who do this work every day.

Easy Peasy Ledger works with many private practice owners, so I get a small glimpse behind the scenes of what it takes to care for clients while also running a business.

Thank you for the work you do.

No sales pitch today. Just appreciation.

A practice can be profitable and still feel short on cash. That is because profit and cash are related, but they are not the same thing.

Before year-end, look at what cash is actually coming in, what payroll and contractor payments are still ahead,
what tax payments are coming, and which larger expenses are already committed.

The bank balance by itself does not tell the whole story.

Clean books make the cash conversation much easier because you can see what the money is already being
asked to do.

Not sure whether your therapy practice needs catch-up bookkeeping or a QuickBooks clean-up? The difference is pretty simple.

Catch-up means the bookkeeping has not been completed for several months.

Clean-up means the work was entered, but the numbers do not look right. Accounts may not reconcile, transactions may be duplicated, categories may be wrong, or personal and business activity may be mixed together.

Some practices need both. Either way, the goal is the same: books you can actually trust.

Not sure what you are looking at? Start with a review of the books.

October is Women's Small Business Month, and many private practice owners are women running both the
client side and the business side.

Let's send some support their way. Tag a woman-owned practice or business below and tell us what makes her work worth knowing about.

Community is good for business, and it is good for the humans building it.

October is the start of the last quarter, which makes it a good time to look at more than your calendar.

Are your books caught up? Do you know how profitable the practice has been this year? Is enough cash set aside for taxes and upcoming expenses? And are your numbers helping you plan for 2027?

You do not have to solve everything this week. Start with one clean financial check-in and build from there.

Clean books. Clear numbers. Better year-end decisions.

The calmest tax seasons are built in the fall, not in April.

If you catch up and clean up your books before the year closes, everything downstream gets easier. You will know
your real profit, what you can pay yourself, and roughly what taxes are coming, with time to actually do something about it.

Waiting until year-end just means doing the same work under more pressure.
Start with a cleanup and head into next year on clean books.

If your practice paid any contractors this year, now is the time to get their paperwork in order.

Before 1099 season, you want a completed Form W-9 from each contractor, which gives you their legal name, tax ID, and address.

Collecting it now is far easier than chasing people down in January when the filing deadline is close.

This comes up a lot for group practices that use contract clinicians or supervisees. A little prep now saves a real
headache later.

Not sure who needs a 1099? Book a call and we will sort it out.

If you are setting up bookkeeping from scratch, here is what a proper setup actually includes.

The right software for your practice. Your business details entered correctly. A chart of accounts that matches how
you work. Clean transaction recording. And a monthly routine so nothing piles up.

Most of the cleanups we do trace back to a setup that was rushed at the start. Getting it right the first time saves that
headache.

Not sure yours is set up right? We will review it before small mistakes become a cleanup. Book a call.
