Ever been handed a form at a Medicare appointment that says the provider isn't sure Medicare will pay for something, and asked to sign it? That's called an Advance Beneficiary Notice. Signing it means you've agreed to be on the hook if Medicare says no — so it's perfectly okay to pause, ask why they think it may not be covered, and ask for an estimate before you sign.
