SpaceX has agreed to acquire AI coding startup Cursor for $60 billion in an all-stock transaction, days after its record-breaking IPO. The deal, exercised via a previously secured option from April 2026, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. SpaceX had held the option to either acquire Cursor outright for $60 billion or pay $10 billion for a collaborative partnership, with the post-IPO stock rally making the full acquisition the more advantageous choice.

Cursor will merge with xAI, SpaceX’s existing AI team, combining its developer tools with SpaceX’s Colossus supercomputer. The deal gives SpaceX direct access to millions of active developers, user data, and daily software workflows, strengthening xAI’s Grok ecosystem against competitors including OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude.
