St. Tammany Parish and the Louisiana Department of Insurance are bringing an Insurance Pop-Up Office to Slidell next week, giving residents an opportunity to meet one-on-one with insurance representatives and get help with storm-related claims and other insurance questions.

📅 Monday - Tuesday, August 24 - 25
⏰ 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
📍 Towers Building, 520 Old Spanish Trail in Slidell

Residents can get in-person assistance with:
• Storm claims
• Flooded homes and vehicles
• Insurance policy questions

In addition, Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple and St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper will host a Town Hall Meeting.

I see a LOT of people wondering about why our homeowners' insurance hasn't gone down. Here's what I know: (please note I don't see every company's changes)
Previous years saw major statewide increases:
16.2% average increase in 2022
14% average increase in 2023
More recently, the rate of growth has moderated:
6.6% in 2024
4.4% in 2025
Several companies have recently announced rate decreases for Louisiana homeowners.
SafePort Homeowners Program
Effective June 9, 2026:
5% statewide average rate decrease for new business immediately
Effective August 1, 2026, for renewals
SureChoice Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (SURE) and Elevate Reciprocal Exchange:
7.5% average rate decrease
Effective February 16, 2026
Impacting more than 90,000 Louisiana policyholders
Cajun Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (CURE):
10% rate decrease for its Louisiana Advantage Homeowners Program
Affecting nearly 24,000 policyholders
HOWEVER, NOT EVERYONE IS REDUCING!
USAA recently finalized a 9.2% homeowners rate INCREASE in Louisiana.
I believe 17 new companies are writing in the state (some only in certain parishes) and FOUR more in the process.
What can you do to help lower your cost? ROOF AGE: This is the most important item. If your roof is over 15 years old, it is very hard to find a market, so having your roof replaced will help your insurance costs. And SHOP AROUND! Company loyalty is understandable, but honestly, shopping around is free and simple. DM me for more information on how to do this.
