As I begin visiting with more and more people about Pasture Range and Forage insurance, it seems some salesmen have oversold this. This is not a money making scheme for ranchers.
This program is designed to balance out those drastic years of drought. There maybe 3 or 4 years that you have to be prepared to pay for the policy, just like any insurance, and yes, you will hate the added cost in those years. Then there are the years like last year and this year that you will wonder where you would be without it. Many of you know that answer.
We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars preparing for a really long, bad winter that comes maybe 2 years out of 10. Haying machinery has become a justified cost, year after year. The more expensive it gets, the more hay we want to raise to justify that up front cost.
What are we really doing to prepare for drought periods? We usually deal with some periods of drought 7 out of 10 years and 3 out of 10 are extreme drought conditions.
We have gotten way too good at just taking drought. More open cows, lighter calves, trying to live off old feed and hope next year is better. Yes, maybe even a bigger hay stack to hopefully get the cows back in shape from lack of feed all summer.
Insurance may not solve the problem, but it does allow us to be proactive and prepare for the next drought period that is sure to come. Give me a call and let's figure out a plan to reduce the risks of drought to your operation. (307) 272-8235.

Do you manage drought or does drought manage you?

Our Pasture, Rangeland & Forage program pays YOU when rainfall is less than 90% of normal, based on NOAA averages for your area!

Well getting ready to leave Rapid City and the R Calf convention. After really getting in front of ranchers from all over the nation, I feel even better about how this program will definitely bring relief to many ranches moving forward. Its not a matter of will drought hit, only when and how bad? Drought is the normal, not the exception and it has been for 60 years, some just worse than others. That's why we appreciate the good years so much. This program works in almost all areas as I picked up ranches in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota. Give me a call or send me a message and let me show you how to minimize the long term effects of drought by being less reactive and more proactive. Thanks Russ

Looking at historical rainfall over the last 10 years, in most areas of Montana and Wyoming, Pasture Rangeland, and Forage Protection would have paid ranchers 7 out of 10 years. What else on your ranch makes more money without more inputs during a drought?

Here is the latest US drought monitor. It’s safe to say our western states are struggling this summer.

Our forage, pasture and rangeland insurance is here to help. If you are in an area that hasn’t had at least 90 percent of its normal rainfall you get paid. It’s that simple.

The Application takes about 15 minutes. I map your acres you verify. NO proof of production or income- its all based on rainfall over two month periods. All acres leased or owned are insurable.

Government pays the first half of the premium up front and only if you have a normal rainfall year would you pay the second half of the premium by Sept. 30, 2022.

I believe that every once in a while, in life things are meant to click with us at just the right time. Today marks the first day of a new adventure that I truly believe can be life changing for fellow farmers and ranchers. I am now an agent for an agricultural insurance company known as Risk Associates. I will be specifically focusing on pasture, forage and rangeland insurance.

In 2018 a federal program was established to finally give ranchers the opportunity to insure pasture, forage, and rangeland against drought. There aren’t many things that actually make ranchers money in a drought. So protect what is yours and let me meet with you to see if this can help your operation be successful even in a drought.

If you would like more information please reach out. I'm happy to help.
