As a 24 year survivor, I'm grateful for everyday, every milestone, and every opportunity to encourage others about the importance of early detection.

One of my favorite community events each year is the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce's annual Red, White & Business Banquet and Awards Celebration.

It is always inspiring to see local businesses, organizations, and individuals recognized for the positive impact they make in our community. Congratulations to all of this year's award recipients and nominees. Your hard work, leadership, and dedication help make Highlands County a wonderful place to live, work, and do business.

I was honored that Diana Albritton Insurance Services once again served as an award sponsor. BE FAST! Great information to share from HCA Florida Highlands Hospital

May is Stroke Awareness Month. Stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted or reduced. Without quick treatment, brain cells can begin to die, which is why the phrase “time is brain” is so important. Recognizing the signs of stroke early and seeking emergency care right away can make a significant difference in a patient’s outcome.

When it comes to stroke, every second matters. Our emergency room team at HCA Florida Highlands Hospital is reminding our community to BE FAST and know the warning signs:

B — Balance: Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or trouble walking
E — Eyes: Sudden vision changes
F — Face: Facial drooping or uneven smile
A — Arms: Arm weakness or numbness
S — Speech: Slurred speech, confusion or trouble speaking
T — Time: Time to call 911 immediately

If you or someone nearby experiences any of these symptoms, do not wait. Call 911 or come to a nearby emergency room right away. Time is brain, and early treatment can make a difference.

Fake dental bill scam

Always be cautious when you receive an unexpected bill. The individual who brought this issue to our attention was skeptical, which helped them avoid being scammed.

While the company mentioned in the letter is legitimate, the content of the letter is completely a scam. The would-be victim called the number provided and was directed to an email address. Upon contacting them via email, the scammers began requesting her bank account information.

That should raise a red flag the size of Lake Istokpoga. These scammers weren't merely seeking $146.65. They wanted to drain the victim's bank account.

Fortunately, the would-be victim took the initiative to research the company, called them directly, and was informed that she did not even have an account with them.

Never give anyone access to your bank account unless you are absolutely certain of their identity. Even then, it’s best to err on the side of caution.

🇺🇲 Our father returned home from the Korean and Vietnam wars, but war mentally never completely leaves those who served.

This Memorial Day, I remember our fallen heroes, honor our veterans and remain deeply grateful for the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

I met this young lady at the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce mixer last night. She shared her information with me and I told her I would share it with my friends and clients. I can tell she's a very special young lady and building her business in the right places with other business leaders.
