1966 ⚽️ It's Coming Home!
Mom grew up in World War 2 England ( bomb Shelters and Food Rations ) Dad joined the Air Force May 29, 1957 to get out of South Dakota. They met Valentine's Day 1958, married May 7, 1960. Dad fell in love with Football ( soccer ) Dad passed away May 31, 2022
An Old Englishmen wrote this poem:
Little poem from a lifelong England fan 🏴
One More Summer
I've seen this country through thick and thin,
From cobbled streets to the roar within.
Back when milk came fresh to every door,
And kids kicked balls till their boots were worn.
The sixties smelled of coal and rain,
Of Sunday roasts and the rattling train.
Black-and-white on the telly screen,
Dreaming of places we'd never seen.
Then sixty-six... ah, what a day,
When England found its glorious way.
I was a lad with my whole life there,
Believing hope was everywhere.
The years rolled on as the mills grew still,
Some dreams stood proud, some climbed uphill.
We've argued hard, we've stood our ground,
Yet always found our feet somehow.
I watched the Poll Tax protests rage,
Anger spilling across the age.
Neighbours differed, voices were loud,
But through the storm we still stood proud.
We've known divisions, joy and grief,
Found strength beyond a single belief.
Because this island's weathered more
Than any headline keeps the score.
Now these old hands hold pint and prayer,
A lucky scarf, a hopeful stare.
Each summer brings that familiar tune:
"Perhaps this time... perhaps it's soon."
So wear the Three Lions on your chest,
Play with courage, give your best.
For every child and every gran,
For every woman, every man.
Not just for glory, gold or fame,
But for the love that built this game.
To give us one more tale to keep,
One more memory buried deep.
And if at last that Cup comes home,
I'll smile though old, no more to roam.
For some dreams never fade away—
They simply wait another day.
So here's to England, bold and true,
To every red and every blue.
May this old heart live long enough to see
The world applaud our victory.
