Summer is here and the frog bite is firing. You need a rod that gets your bait into the back of dense cover and responds quickly to blow ups. A 7’8” Medium Heavy Fenwick World Class combines precise balance to deliver long, pin point casts and responsive
action to drive the hookset through the thickest grass mats.

Summer walleye season is right around the corner, and that means fish pushing offshore and feeding on baitfish. Glide-style minnows are a proven way to trigger bites, whether you’re snapping or dead sticking. Paired with a 6’9” Medium Light Fenwick World Class, you get the responsive action, precision bait control, and flex needed to properly work the bait and stay connected on every bite.

When Those Long Runs Pay Off:

“This was a key fish that helped me secure the Bass Pro Tour win on Lake Cherokee. I was running way up north fishing a Berkley hollow belly swim bait in the current below a roll over dam.”

A Day where Bass Were Feeding Everywhere:

“It was early March on Table Rock Lake, the fish were roaming around everywhere. Chasing shad up shallow and out deep. There were times I’d make the same cast and catch a largemouth, a spot and a smallmouth. It was one of those days where it didn’t matter where you went or what you threw.”

The Wild Combination of Icebergs and Walleyes

“The giant Walleye from Green Bay stage on the flats here to prepare for the spawn. During this trip, we were testing some prototypes of the new World Class lineup of rods. We were also working on the concept for the new Berkley Jack. I was joined by world-famous Coastal Navigator and Youth Hockey coach Ryan Chuckel.

We had the perfect day for probing the icy waters of Green Bay and even got to fish next to an iceberg, which was a first for me. Chuckel (a self-described adrenaline ju**ie and outdoor adventurer) seemed more interested in climbing the mountain of floating ice than casting at the giant hen Walleye.

Ryan struck first with a solid fish! It did not take long, and we were trading blows and having fun with a friendly side bet. We were working the edge of a rock-to-sand transition, in about 8-10ft. of water when Chuckel connected with his PB in the 10lb class. It looked like he was going to win the big fish award of the day when I felt that telltale tick come jolting up my Fenwick World Class. That giant smoked the lipless crankbait and tipped the scales at just under 12lbs!”

The Chaos of a Musky Strike:

“I had just set up camp on the river, and got on the water. It was a freezing cold day, overcast, good moon which had me amped up. I was talking to my buddy about how I just “felt” this was going to be an epic day of musky fishing, I had my rod in the water, bait dangling a few feet down and we were literally just sitting the middle of the river. I went to pick my rod up and move it to the side to get ready to stand up and start working the lay downs on the bank when that fish seemingly came out of no where (later re watching the go pro footage it was already on my bait as it was sitting in the water in front of my kayak). It missed the bait so I tried to figure 8 immediately, and it re appeared on the 8 and then disappeared again. I stood up and was in shock at what had just happened, as Im talking to my friend, I thought that that fish was hot, and apparently wanted to eat so I instinctively started figure 8 again on the other side of my kayak and sure enough the fish re-appeared and got on the 8. In a close quarter figure 8, I hooked it, emotions running high I reached for the net and of course the back treble of the bait clipped my net to increase the chaos. But I ended up maneuvering the net to get the fish in . Ended up being a really big, healthy Fall River fish and one of the coolest eats.”

A Spring Swim Jig Breakthrough:

Everyone once in a while we figure it out, which makes for a fun day. Bass were moving up, and I was catching small ones on a regular swim jig and I could get big fish to bite, but I was having trouble hooking them using a swimming worm. I’m not sure why this didn’t dawn on me before, but I decided to combine two of my favorite springtime lures and put a big Berkley speed boss on the back of my swim jig, and I started getting a lot of big bites and was able to hook up with almost every one of them.

I was fishing very shallow grass, and it was the only clearwater in the area, and the fish were loaded in there. You had to make really long casts so you didn’t spook the big ones, and then be able to fight them out of the heavy cover, which made for some epic battles on super long retrieves. In this situation, my swim jig launcher is always a Fenwick Elite 7‘5“ Medium Heavy rod with mod fast action. The slower tip really allows the fish to take the jig deeply and keep them hooked up, and the rod still has plenty of power to fight them through the heavy grass. By dialing in the right setup and tweaking my bait just a little bit. I turned a frustrating start into my best day of the spring.
