Today I picked up this very tall, very fun lamp at this great vintage store I just discovered here in Santa Barbara 👌

It’s feeling a bit 1970s in here with the addition of this latest lamp, (Me: “Does one room need three lamps?” Also me: “Why not?” 😂), but, like with all vintage finds, I love to wonder about its previous life and owners—the stories it heard, the tiki cocktails it saw. As its proud new owner, I’m treasuring it! ❤️

It’s the last day of winter break and we still have our Christmas tree 🎄up (whoops!), but 2 out of 3 of us managed to take showers and change out of our pajamas and I pulled off a new tablescape for Sunday dinner so we’re taking that as win.🤣

Trial run for my bird lady costume’s Halloween headdress. 🐦‍⬛🦅🕊️🦜🦆

🦅Shape: Rolled a piece of card stock into a cone shape and stapled it.

🐦‍⬛Structure: Glued skewers vertically and wrapped tape horizontally.

🦅Color: Painted it brown then hot-glued 2 hair extensions (from a 4-pack on Amazon) wrapping around it horizontally.

🐦‍⬛Adding more hair: I got-glued the last 2 extensions at the top so the hair tendrils trailed down.

🪿Birds: I hot-glued faux birds onto the hair.

🦅Keeping it in place: I secured my hair in a bun, then put on a wide plastic headband. I placed the hair cone on my head and tucked the bun into the cone. I used large-sized paper clips to secure the headband and my real hair to the paper hair cone. 🐦‍⬛🦅🦉🪿

This is going to be a kiss-on-the-cheek, "Glad to see you, hope you're doing well, but I gotta run!" blog post because all that talk about sheltering-in-place propelling people to fix up their homes is true. It's the silver lining of Covid-19 for the design industry: it's booming! It's so busy, in fact, it just occurred to me to tally the number of bathrooms I'm designing, as the number keeps growing, and it turns out that number is twelve....

Last week was a tough one. Wednesday as our nation watched the Capitol being stormed by marauders, I imagine we all felt like we'd traveled to an alternate universe where a despotic president ruled and he had awakened the unruly. Watching the live coverage, I found myself bursting into tears, unusual for me. I'd just heard LA County had directed their ambulance drivers to pick up only those who had a chance of survival as hospital beds were at maximum capacity and...wait for it...there's now a shortage of oxygen....

The other day someone I follow on Instagram posted a photo of her hand with the words "Get Stuff Done!" written on it. I think that certainly sums up the mood about now, doesn't it? We're all in super over-drive making a list, checking it twice and wringing our hands about those packages that may or may not arrive by December 25th....

This was a kitchen design we completed a couple of years ago, but I still love how the black cabinets, brushed brass hardware and Carrara marble came together! Our houses have been working overtime lately, so I think they all deserve a few gifts, don't you? I like to look at the calendar in the first few pages of Martha Stewart Living Magazine. Presumably it's Martha's calendar as the headline reads "Martha's December". In this month's issue you'll find gentle reminders like "Force paperwhites indoors" (that happens on the 4th), "Begin winter pruning" (on the 15th), and "Go for a hike with the dogs" (the 19th)....
