This Veteran retired from the military right as the government shut down, which meant no pay, late/slow mortgage payments, and a negative escrow balance. He reached out to his mortgage servicer multiple times and got nothing but radio silence. We’ve all experienced that special kind of frustration — “customer no-service.” 😤

CAN I REALLY HELP?
When I asked if he wanted to refinance, he gave me a cautious earful — skeptical, not rude. After hearing the full story, I’ll admit I had reservations too: late/slow payments, a low FICO, and a negative escrow account. The easy option would’ve been to offer sympathetic words, “make a few calls,” and move on.

40 years later…and somehow my old telemarketing script is still living rent-free in my head.

Back then, I cranked out 200 calls a day. Two hundred! My index finger still has a callous.

These days, I’ve traded "hard-selling" for actually helping people as a mortgage loan officer.

Slight upgrade.

I like to think I’ve evolved into an older Labrador Retriever: a step slower (but still chasing the ball), generally happier, easier to be around…and, let’s be honest, carrying a few extra “treats” around the midsection.
