This Veteran was getting shutdown...
CUSTOMER NO-SERVICE
This Veteran retired from the military right as the government shut down, which meant no pay, late/slow mortgage payments, and a negative escrow balance. He reached out to his mortgage servicer multiple times and got nothing but radio silence. We’ve all experienced that special kind of frustration — “customer no-service.” 😤
CAN I REALLY HELP?
When I asked if he wanted to refinance, he gave me a cautious earful — skeptical, not rude. After hearing the full story, I’ll admit I had reservations too: late/slow payments, a low FICO, and a negative escrow account. The easy option would’ve been to offer sympathetic words, “make a few calls,” and move on.

Full disclosure: I’m not a Veteran and I don’t have a warrior’s resumé. But I remembered that book title about embracing the hard stuff and decided to pursue a resolution and answers for him because it was the right thing to do. 🎯
RESULTS
We closed the refinance — not without some keyboard-and-phonecall battles. I pushed hard (yes, I asked for the CEO’s email), and we got it done. ✅
Call it an “atta-boy” post if you like — fair enough.
The bigger point is a philosophy I try to live by: “You can have everything in life you want if you’ll just help enough other people get what they want.” That sums up my approach: service, empathy, and servant leadership lead to the best outcomes.
