Last year wasā¦eventful. š Some dates lasted one drink, some lasted months, but all of them taught me a little more about love. Here are a few of my takeawaysā¦
Chemistry is fun and exciting! It makes you want to keep seeing someoneā¦or calling them at the end of the night š. But having amazing chemistry does not mean that youāre actually compatible long-term.
This one was kind of hard to accept. Someone can be kind, emotionally available, successful, and still missing that je ne sais quois that makes you want to keep dating them. That doesnāt make you wrongā¦
I give myself a 3 date rule now to see if attraction can grow. Sometimes it does, but you canāt keep dating someone just because you wish you liked them more.
The version of someone in your head is often easier to like than the person standing in front of you.
Sometimes itās not the longest relationship that stays with you, but the one you can still imagine turning out differently.
Dating got a lot easier once I stopped asking, āDo they like me?ā and started asking, āDo I like them?ā
Friends can give advice. Therapists can ask great questions. But no one else has to wake up every day living your life.
This one surprised me the most! Building a life I genuinely enjoy didnāt make me stop wanting love, it just made me more patient about finding the right one. š¤
