Hey neighbors! ❤️
Losing a dog or cat is absolutely heartbreaking. I’ve seen way too many missing pet posts in our neighborhood lately, so I wanted to share some simple, practical tips that can really help keep our furry family members safe at home.
Here’s what makes a big difference:
Microchip your pet::
This is by far the most important step. Collars and tags can fall off or get lost, but a microchip is permanent and helps shelters and vets contact you quickly.
Always use a collar with up-to-date ID tags:
Put your current cell number (and a backup) on there. It only takes a second to update.
Don’t leave them unsupervised outdoors,
Dogs can dig under fences and cats can climb over them in no time. Even a minute with the gate open is enough for them to wander off.
Spay or neuter your pets:
It greatly reduces their desire to roam in search of a mate.
Leash them in public:
No matter how well trained, loud noises, other animals, or sudden distractions can make them bolt.
A few extra helpful things:
Teach them a strong “come” command with lots of practice and treats. Consider a GPS tracker like a Fi collar for dogs or a lightweight one for cats. And always keep a recent clear photo of your pet handy.
If you spot a loose dog or cat wandering around, please snap a quick photo and post it in the group. A lot of pets get reunited fast thanks to neighbors helping out.
Let’s all look out for each other’s pets they’re part of our families too. 🐶🐱
If your pet ever goes missing, search your immediate area right away (they usually don’t go far at first), post with a good photo, and contact local shelters ASAP.
Share this if you think it might help someone, and feel free to add your own tips in the comments
