In order to help people align their financial choices with their most important goals and most deeply held values, they must be crystal clear on what they are.

Sounds so simple, right?

Yet the majority of advisors spend the majority of their initial meeting with prospects either talking about themselves, trying to show how smart they are, or not asking the right questions.

Roy Disney, Walt Disney's brother said it best, "When your values are clear, your decisions are easy."

I recently had the opportunity to conduct a Financial Road Map Interview with a high net-worth couple, Tony and Sue. After the completion of their Values Conversation, a critical conversation within the Financial Road Map Interview, we paused the interview to get their feedback on their experience of going through the Values Conversation.

Good News - Most Financial Advisors Are Perfectly Happy Being Average

There's always a lot of talk about how to be a better financial advisor.

The hope is that if you become a better financial advisor, you'll acquire more clients.

Unfortunately, that's not always the case.

To acquire more clients, preferably Ideal Clients, you need to get better at the skills that actually matter when it comes to acquiring the right clients.

Hint - It's not your technical skills.

So what do you need to be better at?

#1 - You have to be a better communicator. Better at asking questions. Better at listening. Better at making a personal connection with both spouses. Better at communicating why your client value promise is better than their current advisor, or any other advisor they are looking to hire.

#2 - You have to have a better process. You need to have a repeatable process that delivers superior value, before and after you get hired. You need a flowchart for every single step of the client acquisition process.

#3 - You need to provide a better experience. Every step of the process needs to include a superior experience. Interactive, engaging, inspiring, and emotionally compelling.

#4 - You need a better Client Value Promise. You need to deliver better value and service than what they are currently getting, or would be getting from another advisor.

The good news is that most financial advisors are perfectly happy being average. Providing both an average experience and an average amount of value to their clients thinking that they would never leave them.

The truth is, their clients probably never would leave... until they meet YOU!

On the flip side, very few are willing to do what it takes to actually accomplish this.

They are simply unwilling to do the work necessary to achieve their goals.
