Alright, friends. The news is buzzing about tax season opening and that Social Security "raise." I’ve run the numbers, and here is the reality check for your wallet.

Don't let the headlines fool you—you need to watch the fine print this month.

Here’s the breakdown:

👵 FOR OUR SENIORS: You heard about that 2.8% Social Security COLA raise, right? It averages out to about $56 extra a month. But wait—Medicare Part B premiums just jumped up to nearly $203 a month. The real result? For most folks, that "raise" is actually closer to $38 a month after Medicare takes its share. That barely covers the extra cost of groceries, which are still up 2.4%.

👷‍♂️ FOR WORKERS & FAMILIES: The new tax bill promises no taxes on overtime and tips. That could mean a huge refund. The catch? You need to look at your W-2 RIGHT NOW. If your employer lumped your overtime pay in with your regular wages instead of separating it out, you might not be able to easily claim that tax break without risking an audit. Check Box 14.

Headline inflation looks better, but rent and food prices are stubborn. Keep your eyes open this filing season and make sure you get every dime you earned.
