The Dhakuria Library

The Dhakuria Library The Dhakuria Public Library is one of the oldest libraries in Kolkata established on 26th June in the year 1904.It is adjacent to Dhakuria Railway station.

Its been 112 successful years since the library delivered good taste to bookworms. It started it's journey with the two young souls named Shri Prakash Chandra Chattopadhaye and Shri Tarak mukhopadhaye with 60 books only. As it was dedicated to help the students only it was named Student's Library then. Afterwards with financial contributions from the local people and gradually owing its own place this library turned out to be a general library and was named as The Dhakuria Public Library.

Dhakuria Public Library is now resumed it's operations from 22nd September. Now it will serve the members thrice in a week (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday) excepting Govt. Holidays. Members cooperation is solicited. Also, during this pandemic situation many of our elderly members are incapacitated - so participation of younger members are requested.

I have made this page to inform our members and friends that The Dhakuria Public Library has completed its journey for more than 112 years and rendered it's valuable service to the locality by inculcating reading habits.
