If you've spent 20 years at a defense contractor in San Diego or OC, there's a good chance a big chunk of your net worth is sitting in company stock through an ESPP, a 401(k), or both. The concentration risk is real. Selling everything at once can create a significant tax liability in a single year. Holding it all carries its own set of risks. The middle ground usually depends on income, retirement timeline, and how the rest of the portfolio is built. No single answer fits everyone, but the question is worth thinking through before it becomes urgent.
