October is National Women’s Small Business Month, and as a woman-owned and operated small business, IQ Bookkeeping has plenty to celebrate.

QuickBooks gave it a green checkmark…so it must be correct, right? 🫠

Not necessarily...

QuickBooks’ updated AI-powered Banking page uses your past activity to recommend payees, categories, matches, and transfers. Those suggestions can save time but a confident suggestion is not the same as a reviewed transaction.

Before you hit “Post All,” ROCK before you roll:

🪨 R — Right payee?
Confirm who was paidor who paid you.

🪨 O — On the right account?
Check the category, class, location, or project.

🪨 C — Categorize, match, or transfer?
Make sure the transaction is being handled correctly instead of automatically accepting the suggestion.

🪨 K — Keep the backup.
Attach the receipt, invoice, note, or explanation.

QuickBooks can do the suggesting. Good bookkeeping still does the deciding.

🚨 QuickBooks support calling out of nowhere?

Petty Cash Pebble (our highly trained, completely unlicensed security officer) says: hang up before you “verify” anything. 🪨📞

Scammers may use convincing caller IDs, urgent warnings, official-looking emails, or requests for remote access and payment. If something feels off:

✅ End the unexpected call
✅ Open QuickBooks yourself
✅ Contact support through the in-product Help menu
✅ Never give an unsolicited caller remote access
✅ Don’t pay a surprise “support renewal” invoice
✅ Forward suspicious Intuit emails to [email protected]

A familiar logo does not prove the person contacting you is legitimate.

And yes, we bet you thought this announcement was going to be about our B Corp™ certification again. We contain multitudes. 😂

Petty Cash Pebble came home from the conference with new ideas, fun pictures, and, most importantly, receipts. 🧾🪨

Your post-conference bookkeeping does not need to become a three-month archaeological dig.

Before you completely unpack:

✔️ Upload your receipts into your bookkeeping software
✔️ Match each receipt to its transaction
✔️ Add the conference or business purpose
✔️ Submit outstanding reimbursements
✔️ Separate any personal purchases
✔️ Make sure the expense is categorized correctly

A receipt proves what you purchased. A quick note helps explain why it was a business expense.

Do the ten-minute reset now, before your conference tote bag becomes long-term document storage...

I’m nearly home from BLD Southeast, IQ Bookkeeping’s victory lap after being the first company to achieve initial certification under the new V2 standards in the US and Canada. After hanging with old friends, meeting so many new B Corp friends and an inspiring congressional plenary, my hope tank is full!

Tip Tuesday: If the work matters, do not let it live in one person’s brain. 👀

As part of our B Corp Certification, we created officer roles to help our team share responsibility, stay accountable, and keep the work moving beyond the initial certification process.

Because better business practices are not a one-person job.

By delegating key areas like sustainability, compliance, JEDI/human rights, vendor procurement, and long-term vision, we are building systems that help our team work together instead of relying on one person to remember, manage, document, and follow up on everything.

Small business tip: when a responsibility keeps coming up, assign an owner.

Not because one person has to do it all but because someone needs to help guide it, track it, and keep the team aligned.

It is about making sure important work actually has a place to land.
