Drought is not just local—it’s regional. That’s why scale matters. 🌎💧
The North American Drought Monitor ( ), updated monthly, brings together experts from Mexico, the U.S., and Canada—including NOAA, , U.S. Department of Agriculture, Environment Canada, , and Conagua Comisión Nacional del Agua—to build a shared, cross-border picture of the drought.
Decisions around water rarely happen in isolation; the drought monitor provides the regional context behind local conditions—helping us understand how drought connects across basins, climates, and economies. We are pleased to highlight the Drought Monitor for the US-MX border as a valuable tool for tracking drought conditions within the Bank's jurisdiction, where 25% of the area was in drought as of April 30, 2026. This shows an improvement from last year's 78%, mainly due to above-average rainfall and better soil moisture—key indicators used by the U.S. Drought Monitor to assess drought severity.
