📣 Important Recall Notice📣
Please take a moment to read this if you or someone you know is taking the medication Prazosin Hydrochloride Capsules (1 mg, 2 mg & 5 mg).
⸻
What’s going on?
• The manufacturer Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of these capsules, due to the detection of an impurity that may pose a health risk.
• The recall is classified as Class II by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which means “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” or “where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
• It’s estimated that hundreds of thousands of bottles are affected across the U.S.
⸻
Why does this matter to you (or the person you take care of)?
Since you are on Medicare and possibly managing multiple medications or chronic conditions, this recall could affect your blood-pressure regimen or another condition for which prazosin was prescribed. It’s especially important because managing medication changes can impact your overall health and coverage.
⸻
What you should do right now:
1. Check your medication: Look at bottles of prazosin hydrochloride – 1 mg, 2 mg or 5 mg capsules. See if the label says manufactured by Teva or matches any recall lot notices.
2. Stop using the affected medication (unless your doctor tells you otherwise).
3. Contact your prescriber or pharmacist ASAP and let them know you may have a recalled bottle. They can recommend a safe replacement or alternative.
4. Keep track of your Medicare Part D or Advantage drug plan coverage: If you need to switch medications, we can help you understand how that affects your plan, copays, and network pharmacies.
5. Stay calm, but vigilant: The risk of serious harm appears low, but since the medication doesn’t meet manufacturing standards, we don’t want to ignore it.
