Did you know that liability claims in a holistic practice can involve more than client injuries?

An EMPA-insured practitioner faced a copyright infringement and breach of contract claim involving teaching materials from a modality they had learned from another trainer.

The insurance company provided an attorney to defend the practitioner.

Although the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, the practitioner's insurance policy covered the attorney fees and settlement expenses — totaling more than $67,000.

According to this EMPA case study, the practitioner did not have to pay those costs out of pocket.

For energy healers and holistic practitioners who teach workshops or develop training programs, this case highlights the importance of understanding copyright permissions, teaching agreements, and the scope of your insurance coverage.
