I had the opportunity to make a few comments as the sponsor at the CFMA luncheon about Why we do what we do.
My mentor, Bill Patterson, taught, "We do what we do because we know what we know."
Our actions are a product of our experiences. If I take the time to reflect on my actions I can make necessary changes to align with Why I do what I do. I can seek information, education, and even relationships that will shape my future and the things that I do.

BACK TO SCHOOL TIME!!! While we all get in the rhythm of kids going back to school, I want to share this video about how to spot children that are about to walk or run into the street. You need to be prepared and this information will help you see them before they end up in front of your vehicle. Where to keep your eyes as you drive through a neighborhood or past a school when children are present.

A few tips from the video:
1) Turn off all distractions before entering an area where children will be present (radio, devices, even conversations)
2) Keeping your speed below the speed limit will give you more time to stop
3) Taking your foot off the gas pedal and hovering over the break will also reduce the time needed to stop.
4) Keep your eyes on the road and find the feet of nearby children as you look beneight the cars parked along the street. You won't always see a small child's head, but you will see their little legs and feet as they walk between cars into the street. The State Fund has approved a $25M Safety Grant for Roofers, Carpenters, and Sheet Metal workers. If you have 1 employee working over 6ft in height in one of these class codes and your State Fund policy is in good standing, you can qualify for their smallest grant of $2,500. Which do you see from your management team more? Teamwork or hiding? Hopefully you see more teamwork, but if you struggle to get the best from your team, consider a look in the mirror and ask yourself these questions:
1 - Have I made it perfectly clear what success looks like?
2 - Does my team feel SAFE approaching me for more clarity?
3 - When my team needs help do they feel SAFE asking for help?
4 - Does my team see me learning alongside them?

Let's talk about it. I sit on several safety committees, and this is a common problem while you spend time solving symptoms of this problem.
