Ahhh fall! The chill in the air. The trees with their slow-motion, technicolor explosion. Pumpkins & mums. Bonfires, hayrides, and sweaters. The anticipation of the holidays. Budget planning for next year, expense reduction mandates, and the ritual loosing of a hoard of suited, corporate zombies wandering the halls handing out termination notices and severance packages.

That last part sounds scary right? Well, yes, it can be at first, until you take a breath and realize that those soul-less deadwalkers just freed you from the horror house of corporate life with a big check and an opportunity to create the kind of life you should have been living all along, the one you've dreamed about as long as you can remember.

One of the fastest growing hot dog and BBQ franchise concepts is replacing McDonald’s and Subway in Walmart locations across the country. Quantum Franchise Group received the exciting news this month from one of our favorite food and beverage concepts.

Last spring Walmart corporate decision makers in Bentonville, AR made the decision to begin phasing out McDonald’s and Subway locations from their stores, and approached our brand to begin opening express locations in their place.

As of this writing, we have 58 locations in 8 states available for development with more coming in the near future.

Franchising as an Investment Strategy - Part 5

Our team had a C-suite executive disqualified from becoming a franchise owner with a brand right at the finish line. Seems surprising, right? You would think that a candidate with that level of business experience and acumen would be an obvious choice for franchise ownership. Here's what went wrong.

The candidate was invited to "Discovery Day." Sometimes also known as "Confirmation Day," this is the last step in the process before a franchise is awarded. The candidate usually visits the headquarters for a final "interview" with senior executives.

During his meetings with the senior executives, he repeatedly interrupted them to demonstrate what he felt was superior subject matter expertise. His goal was to impress the franchise executives by being the smartest person in the room, suggesting that, without working a single day as a franchise owner with their brand, he knew how to run the business better than the people who built the business from the ground up and scaled it to multiple markets.

There's no doubt the candidate was highly qualified, but he inadvertently demonstrated to the franchise that he was not a good fit for what every franchise is looking for in a candidate, someone who believes in the brand, believes in the proven process, and can execute that process.

There is a time and place for everything:

As a candidate: Demonstrate to the franchisor that you are a person with humility, emotional intelligence, that you are coachable, and that you will follow the system that every other successful franchisee in their network followed to launch and scale a successful territory.

As a franchisee: After you've been awarded the franchise, launched, scaled, and reached profitability, you're now in a great position to contribute to the greater good of the company. With humility, and newly acquired "street cred," this is your time to shine by bringing your best insights, ideas, and suggestions to the company to make a great brand even better. You may even be invited onto a advisory board, but you have to earn this honor!
